Lamb in a Manger

It's time for the main dish of Feasting on the Christmas Story. If you're just joining us, you can find a walkthrough of the first course, Ceasar Salad & Bethlehem Bread, here, and the second course, Savory Eastern Trio, here.
The main dish is called Lamb in a Manger and highlights Jesus, the Lamb of God. We cook lamb filets and serve them on a "bed of straw", made of French fries and green beans. Some of our kids enjoy their meat with ketchup, and we let that quietly foreshadow the Easter story.
As we eat, we read the following Bible passages:
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
will accomplish this. Isaiah 9:6-7 (NIV)
While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. Luke 2:6-7 (NIV)
Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29b (NIV)
Stay tuned next week for dessert, Celestial King Cake!
