A Little More About...

(Because of) This Millstone Heart

When all you can do is cling to the promise of Ezekiel 36:26.

I am particularly fond of the New Living Translation:

"And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart."

Lyrics

V1

I am a shadow, a hollowed-out soul

Empty and mourning the life that lived me

No longer whole, but if I'm just a shell

Why am I so heavy

V2

Dry, rattling bones, mere dust in the wind

Lifeless, forsaken, a heart hard as stone

No longer beating, weighing me down

No way to get free

Chorus

Because of this millstone heart

I'm too far from the surface

Because of this millstone heart

I'm drowning in existence

Bridge

This callous heart

Has no pulse, has no life

This deadbeat heart

Is pulling me under

Into the depths of tempest whisky

This millstone heart

Is dragging me way down

Into the depths of raging seas

V3

I am a shadow, a hollowed-out soul

Can anyone replace this hard heart of mine?

My shell may be empty, but burdened I be

Because of this millstone heart
